Barriers to innovation

How can leaders create an environment where risk taking is encouraged despite the possibility of failure? Transformational leaders are visionary and encourage others to be creative, push boundaries with their ideas and overcome inertia.

The most common barriers to innovation:
Fear of change or challenging the status quo.
Lack of 'allotted' time to dedicate to brainstorming.
Shifting priorities - today's workload always takes precedent over long-term plans.
Unfocused meetings with a lack of skillful brainstorm facilitation.
An absence of a shared vision or strategy.

4 strategies to start you innovating:
1) Focus on your future challenges rather than past successes.
2) Include creative thinking as part of your working routine.
3) Try out new models/techniques to spark innovation.
4) Place your ideas within your business context to align it with your strategy.

Media Futures Conference

The Media Futures Conference is being held in North London on Friday 20th June. It's a one day exploration of the dynamics and trends shaping the future of media. Definitely a day to attend for anyone involved in the media sector from a research, production or management perspective or if you're just interested in society and how it affects media consumption. I'm mostly interested in the discussions that are going to be explored around improving the innovation process within that sector and how we can invigorate it.

The organisers are also requesting attendees submit in advance, short provocations around the themes of the conference to stimulate thinking. These will then be presented during lunch.

Optimising performance: Engaging your team

With everyone's jam packed timetable, how do you make sure your team are inspired and collaborating effectively? What can you do to ensure that all diverse perspectives are connected and channelled towards your business goals?

The answer lies not in endless meetings but in equipping your staff with individual and group techniques which they can master and dip into when they need to address challenges and motivate fresh thinking. You can lead by example and inspire others to develop their ideas. These are just some of the areas we resolve in our innovation workshops. Choose a creative problem solving workshop which will suit your needs and contact us to tailor it for you.
